According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), it is estimated that approximately 1.3 billion people in the world live with some form of vision impairment. The leading cause of this is mainly refractive errors and cataracts.
The Supreme Court (SC) agreed on Monday to consider giving an urgent hearing to petitions challenging the constitutional validity of a Maharashtra law that granted reservation to the Maratha community in education and jobs.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi took note of the submissions of a lawyer that the petitions were not getting listed for hearing.
“You give the memo. We will look into it,” said the bench.

The first job fair in the series is planned for will be held at NAB office, Sector 5, RK Puram New Delhi.
Snehadeep Trust, the not-for-profit which has been working with visually impaired and differently abled for a long time and providing them training, accommodation, education, and assistance with personal development, recently expanded its operations to include children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With a white cane in hand and guided by her inner light, Tiffany Brar, the 28-year-old visually-impaired woman, has been travelling across the state, changing the lives of similar people with her noble initiatives.
This time, Tiffany, founder of Jyothirgamaya Foundation, intends to shed light on the lives of visually-challenged children by opening a preparatory school/kindergarten in the city.
While growing up in Kasaragod in Kerala, Vaishak JP had to climb the Chandragiri hill everyday to catch a bus to get to school. Backwaters and beaches weren’t too distant from where he lived. This is perhaps why he believes “everyone should experience Nature’s beauty.”
Vaishak’s interest in Nature increased as he grew older. After completing his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, botany and zoology at St Aloysious College, Mangaluru, he joined his grandfather, a forest officer, in exploring the forests of Karnataka.
Just one touch or the aroma of the herbs was enough. Whether it was curry leaves, betel leaves, omavalli, aloe vera or tulasi, a group of visually challenged students got their answers right.
Along with it, they learned the benefits of the common herbal plants.
