BENGALURU: Refractive errors are the most common treatable cause of visual impairment. These are optical imperfections that prevent the eye from properly focusing light, thus causing blurred vision. The primary refractive errors are near-sightedness (myopia), far-sightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism and presbyopia. These can be corrected with glasses or contact lenses, or can be permanently treated with laser surgery.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  A disability cannot stop a person from pursuing their ambition. Husna Ameen, 27, who suffers from visual impairment, has just completed her post-graduation in English literature and is a computer trainer. Husna is currently running a YouTube Channel, ‘English Insights with Husna’, which has got nearly 608 subscribers and already touched 1,000 views.

AUBURN — Even though Alice Jordan can only see less than 10% of her field of vision, that doesn't stop her from painting and collecting work from other artists. The walls of her Auburn home are adorned with them.

And her vision loss didn't stop Jordan, 70, from becoming the first blind person to bike in the annual Great Race. On Aug. 11, she and her cycling partner, Jim Kleiber, rode a reclining tandem bicycle for 10 miles on country roads in the town of Owasco to complete the cycling portion of the relay race.

This voice assistant can help visually impaired browse web

Researchers have developed a new voice assistant that allows people with visual impairments to get web content quickly and effortlessly from smart speakers and similar devices.

The research team from University of Waterloo found a way to merge the best elements of voice assistants with screen readers to create a tool called Voice Exploration, Retrieval and Search (VERSE) that makes web searches easier.
