Land Use Controversy: State to look into demand for residential home for the blind

After a wait of at least two decades, a group of visually-impaired persons led by Anil Khurana has won half the battle for a residential accommodation at a plot which was sanctioned to the Poona Blind Men’s Association (PBMA) in Hadapsar. Anil Khurana had alleged that two hectares in Sector 93/2 in Mauje Mohammadwadi had been awarded to the PBMA for a primary health centre and a residential home for the blind, but the plot housed a hospital only. 

Quantify learning disability: HC

The Bombay High Court Wednesday directed an expert committee set up by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to look into the issue of quantification of learning disability (LD) in terms of percentage. The committee has been set up to look into the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill, 2014. The Bill will replace the Persons with Disabilities (Equal  Opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995. 

Zero sympathy for 100% blind!

AHMEDABAD: Such was the apathy of the state government towards the visually impaired that, when the high court ruled in favour of 11 blind candidates, asking the education department to provide jobs to them in November 2012, in February 2013, the government brought out a notification restricting the appointment. The division bench of justice Jayant Patel and justice Z K Saiyed on June 12, 2013 had taken a serious note of this notification.
