14 essential departments in Karnataka to work full time during extended lockdown

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government on Wednesday identified 14 departments as essential and asked all its employees to attend work during the extended period of lockdown to check coronavirus spread in the state.

According to a circular issued by chief secretary T M Vijay Bhaskar, all classes of officials/employees in these departments must attend to their work.

David Brown, the world’s fastest totally blind sprinter, has been accompanied every step of the way by his guide Jerome Avery but the coronavirus outbreak has forced them apart for the first time in six years of training and racing together.

Many runners can continue training more or less as usual in this time of social and physical distancing but it is not so easy for those without sight, who run in tandem with their guide, their adjoining hands tethered by a 30cm (12 inch) band.

BHUBANESWAR:  With schools and colleges shut due to lockdown, visually-challenged students in the State are a worried lot. Neither do they have audiobooks for all subjects nor alternative study materials like braille texts. The State Government has paid little attention to the educational needs of visually-challenged students. Though the Government has decided to start online education for Class X students through Diksha application after April 14, no such initiatives has been taken up at college level.

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Social distancing is tough for everyone.

For the blind and those with visual impairments, it takes a lot of adjustment.

Erica Thomas, of Riviera Beach, is among those adjusting to limited touching under the COVID-19 restrictions and it’s extra challenging for her.

“My right eye, I see nothing. Nothing at all," she said.
