At Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Nagar in Thiruvanmiyur, the Residents Welfare Association identifies those people who may be at a greater disadvantage than most others on account of the COVID-19 situation, and provide them with the necessary succour. This work is orchestrated by street representatives.

Hannah Alice Simon, 15, had to face a lot of difficulties in her childhood. Being visually-impaired from birth, Hannah didn’t have many friends to play with and went through a lot of bullying from other children, being often called a ‘ghost’ or a ‘devil’.
Bengaluru based NGO Smileys is ensuring to provide food, water and other essential commodities to disabled people in the city during the lockdown period. The services are sent through authorized delivery partners like Dunzo, Swiggy etc. In a week, they have already reached out to 2200 people in the city.

The novel coronavirus outbreak has forced millions of people around the world to limit what and who they touch and stay in place for the time being -- all methods to try to tamp down on the spread of the virus in the absence of a vaccine or treatment.
But for the blind community, in particular, these restrictions create additional obstacles that may contribute to their already vulnerable state, experts said.
