New Delhi, Dec 21 (IANS) Now the visually impaired in India can call a toll free number and get their queries addressed in their local language, thanks to an initiative launched on Monday.

With the inauguration of the 22nd National Cricket Tournament for the blind at Central Civil Services Cultural and Sports Ground, Chanakyapuri, the Cricket Association for the Blind (CABI) got another boost on Thursday as the Pakistan Government cleared the Pakistan blind team to travel to India for the Asia Cup in January.

Naga Blind Association (NBA) observed the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 in Dimapur. The day, which was declared by the United Nations, aims to promote an understanding of disability issues while mobilising support. ‘Inclusion matters: Access and empowerment of people of all disabilities’ is the year’s theme.

Riteish Deshmukh, whose Marathi production “Yellow” has been selected as the opening film of the first International Film Festival for the Persons with Disabilities (IFFPD), says it is a “special film” and he is “honoured and excited” with the selection.
