For over 10 days now, with no work, the daily source of income has stopped, they said

Dharman, who lives near Samiyar railway gate in Maraimalai Nagar, is unsure of when he will go back to his daily job. Before the lockdown, Dharman and several other residents of the area who are visually impaired, used to sell snacks on the trains that run from Beach to Chengalpet.

The coronavirus pandemic has caused daily difficulties for everyone. But what if you are visually impaired? Blind journalist Kate Pounds explores the particular challenges the virus has thrown up.

As the train approached London Waterloo on my last journey home from work before lockdown, a fellow passenger remarked he didn't want to press the button to open the doors because of Coronavirus.

It got me thinking. As someone who cannot see, I have to touch objects and surfaces much more than your average person.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a large impact on the mental health of Indians, with many feeling unsafe, leading to a rise in anxiety and stress. To alleviate these mental health concerns, Mpower, a pioneer in Indian mental healthcare has partnered with Government of Maharashtra and the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to launch a toll-free helpline number – 1800-120-820050 called ‘BMC-Mpower 1on1’ that will be available to citizens 24x7.

Though born visually impaired, Hannah, today, is the youngest and sought after motivational speakers in Kerala. She has also written and recorded many songs for her YouTube Channel which has almost 1000 subscribers and has garnered over 20,000 views.

Hannah Alice Simon, 15, had to face a lot of difficulties in her childhood. Being visually-impaired from birth, Hannah didn’t have many friends to play with and went through a lot of bullying from other children, being often called a ‘ghost’ or a ‘devil’.
