Better tech than braille for blind now

HYDERABAD: What if someone still uses Telegram as a primary tool for communicating with people even today? Isn’t that weird and outdated in this fast-paced world? Spending a huge amount only on improving Braille catalog in public libraries, printing Braille calendars, distributing Braille books of ancient scriptures are also as weird as the usage of telegram.

I am extremely excited and at the same time nervous writing this mail.
Almost a decade ago we took our first step o audio describing the movie Black and prepared a special DVD of the movie that many of us enjoyed. We started with the vision that one day we will reach a stage where most of the movies released in Indian theatres  will provide us the option to listen to audio description through the headphone while we are sitting with our family and friends in the movie hall.

In a first for India, Mizoram chief minister Lal Thanhawla last week inaugurated the Centre for Disability Studies at the Mizoram University in Aizawl. The Centre has been set up by the Department of Person with Disabilities, under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.

The Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat on Wednesday announced that the Commission has decided to establish auxiliary polling stations for the people with disabilities (PwDs) during elections. The CEC said that disability coordinators would be appointed at the levels of assembly constituencies, districts and States.

BENGALURU:The Department for Empowerment of Differently-abled and Senior Citizens has decided to write to the Railway Board objecting to the disabled coach being placed at the end of the trains. This comes close on the heels of two knife-yielding men robbing a differently-abled woman passenger in the differently-abled coach on Bengaluru-Mangaluru-Kannur train on June 28.

To give loans to disabled, corporation wants government guarantee

BENGALURU:Differently-abled people in the state have been unable to get loans from National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC) for a little more than a year now.

The corporation was hit when 664 people had taken loans in the past but did not pay back. As a result, the corporation stopped giving out loans and insisted that the state government give a bank guarantee for those taking loans, something that the government is unwilling to do without a proper screening mechanism in place.

BENGALURU : The differently-abled in the city can get a chance to be a part of what has been termed as India’s first Accessible Bowling, to be held on Church Street. The event has been organised by Enable Travel, a startup that focuses on curating travels for the differently-abled. GNDU to re-advertise posts for disabled candidates

The Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) has decided to re-advertise the post of Punjabi assistant professor in the differently-abled category. The university will also call candidates with disability for all the subjects, once the current recruitments process ends.

 

The decision of the university comes in the wake of the recruitment row as a handicapped candidate appeared in the interview to fill the posts of permanent assistant professor along with others.
