Maratha quota: SC agrees to urgent hearing of petitions

The Supreme Court (SC) agreed on Monday to consider giving an urgent hearing to petitions challenging the constitutional validity of a Maharashtra law that granted reservation to the Maratha community in education and jobs.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi took note of the submissions of a lawyer that the petitions were not getting listed for hearing.

“You give the memo. We will look into it,” said the bench.

Placement drive for PWD candidates tomorrow, walk-interviews.

As many as 95 candidates including visually-impaired and people with locomotor disability have registered to be part of the drive. Interested candidates can walk-in for to be part of the placement drive.

Sector Skill Council (SSC), NASSCOM in association with National Association for Blind (NAB), New Delhi is organising a placement drive for Persons with Disability (PwD) tomorrow – July 30, 2019. The first job fair in the series is planned for will be held at NAB office, Sector 5, RK Puram New Delhi.

While growing up in Kasaragod in Kerala, Vaishak JP had to climb the Chandragiri hill everyday to catch a bus to get to school. Backwaters and beaches weren’t too distant from where he lived. This is perhaps why he believes “everyone should experience Nature’s beauty.”

Vaishak’s interest in Nature increased as he grew older. After completing his bachelor’s degree in chemistry, botany and zoology at St Aloysious College, Mangaluru, he joined his grandfather, a forest officer, in exploring the forests of Karnataka.

Just one touch or the aroma of the herbs was enough. Whether it was curry leaves, betel leaves, omavalli, aloe vera or tulasi, a group of visually challenged students got their answers right.

Along with it, they learned the benefits of the common herbal plants.

Coming, sensory park in Sec 35 for special people

A sensory park for people with special needs is set to come up in Sector 35-D.

To be built under the Smart City Mission, the park will have a combination of sensory-integrated play equipment and amenities, along with green area. The park, which will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 93 lakh, is aimed at stimulating the five senses — taste, sight, touch, smell and hearing. The charges for its upkeep for five years have been kept at Rs 65 lakh.

High Court seeks report on rehabilitation of pellet-blinded, other visually impaired persons

The High Court on Tuesday sought details from the State Government about measures taken to rehabilitate the pellet-blinded and other visually impaired persons.

A division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Rashid Ali Dar directed State’s senior additional Advocate General BA Dar to place before it the details within two days facilities available within for empowering visually impaired persons and those which have been blinded and have suffered injuries by use of pellet guns.
