Visually challenged college students taught benefits of herbal plants

Just one touch or the aroma of the herbs was enough. Whether it was curry leaves, betel leaves, omavalli, aloe vera or tulasi, a group of visually challenged students got their answers right.

Along with it, they learned the benefits of the common herbal plants.

Coming, sensory park in Sec 35 for special people

A sensory park for people with special needs is set to come up in Sector 35-D.

To be built under the Smart City Mission, the park will have a combination of sensory-integrated play equipment and amenities, along with green area. The park, which will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 93 lakh, is aimed at stimulating the five senses — taste, sight, touch, smell and hearing. The charges for its upkeep for five years have been kept at Rs 65 lakh.

डॉ. शकुन्तला मिश्रा राष्ट्रीय पुनर्वास विश्वविद्यालय के दृष्टिहीन सहित सभी दिव़्यांग विद्यार्थी छात्रावास की बढ़ी हुई फीस जमा करने का बहिष्कार करेंगे। साथ ही उन्होंने छात्रावास में रहने की अधिकतम सीमा 8 वर्ष करने की मांग की है। दूसरी ओर बुधवार को भी दिव्यांग अस्थाई छात्रावास पाने के लिए भटकते रहे। उनकी सहायता करने वाला कोई नहीं है।

High Court seeks report on rehabilitation of pellet-blinded, other visually impaired persons

The High Court on Tuesday sought details from the State Government about measures taken to rehabilitate the pellet-blinded and other visually impaired persons.

A division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Rashid Ali Dar directed State’s senior additional Advocate General BA Dar to place before it the details within two days facilities available within for empowering visually impaired persons and those which have been blinded and have suffered injuries by use of pellet guns.

Thiruvananthapuram: Tiffany to start ‘school’ for visually challenged

Thiruvananthapuram: A new initiative, a preparatory school/ kindergarten for visually challenged children, is being launched by Tiffany Brar, visually challenged and founder of Jyothir-gamaya here.

The school, the first of its kind in the state, will be inaugurated by social justice minister K.K. Shailaja, on Friday. Tiffany, 28, belonging to Thiruvananthapuram, runs ‘Jyothirgamaya,’ her own social project for the visually impaired, in a rented building at Kurava-nkonam–Vayilikkada road.

HYDERABAD: “Even charity has become a rat race today. We have many NGOs which claim to do good work for the visually impaired, but there are very few which actually empower them.

There are, however, a few institutes like LV Prasad Eye Institute and ‘youth4jobs’ who are putting in phenomenal efforts to help them. Our organisation wants to be the bridge connecting these institutes with the visually impaired,” says Uma Shankar Veeravalli from the ‘Voice of VIP’.
