Online series Safe Cooking offers lessons specially for visually impaired people

Are you a visually impaired person who wants to pick up some basic tips in cooking? Well, help is online in the form of a series called Safe Cookingon YouTube.

The brainchild of Sushmeetha Bubna, founder of Voice Vision, a well-known NGO for blind people, the series aims to empower people with visual impairments. Bubna is also the series host. The first episode is already out and focuses on the theoretical aspects of cooking.
 

Gurugram students design walking stick & self help shoes for visually impaired people

In our weekly feature #TechThursdays we turn the spotlight on a school that
is going against the norm of marks and grades and encouraging its students
to develop lateral thinking skills.

What happens when you encourage students to come up with solutions to real
world problems and develop working prototypes of solutions, they have
proposed using latest technologies? You get an automated walking stick, 3D
printed braille cards, and "help me" shoes - all aimed at enabling visually
impaired people perform daily tasks with ease.

PANAJI: Sumera Khan, 19, didn’t think her first voting  experience would be so pleasant. The visually impaired  student from Curtorim constituency had seen many of her kind  go up to the polling booth but were forced to depend on someone else to execute the task for them. Making an independent  choice was simply not possible, until Tuesday.

CBSE to allow visual aids for disabled kids from 2020

The CBSE students, from 2020, will be allowed to use magnifying glasses and portable video magnifiers during the Class X final examination.

CBSE, notifying the exemption said, “Alternative-type questions will be provided in lieu of questions having visual inputs for visually impaired candidates in social science. With effect from 2020, in lieu of large-font question papers, candidates will be allowed to use magnifying glasses/ portable video magnifiers.”

Bengaluru: The Suriya Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation from Bengaluru, aims to provide quality education to visually impaired and economically weaker sections. "Along with education, we also support the students with basic necessities like as food, clothing and medical services," said Mr Saravana, one of the founders of the Suriya Foundation, while talking to Deccan Chronicle.
