CBSE to allow visual aids for disabled kids from 2020

The CBSE students, from 2020, will be allowed to use magnifying glasses and portable video magnifiers during the Class X final examination.

CBSE, notifying the exemption said, “Alternative-type questions will be provided in lieu of questions having visual inputs for visually impaired candidates in social science. With effect from 2020, in lieu of large-font question papers, candidates will be allowed to use magnifying glasses/ portable video magnifiers.”

Bengaluru: The Suriya Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation from Bengaluru, aims to provide quality education to visually impaired and economically weaker sections. "Along with education, we also support the students with basic necessities like as food, clothing and medical services," said Mr Saravana, one of the founders of the Suriya Foundation, while talking to Deccan Chronicle.

While efforts have been made to improve facilities at polling booths for persons with disabilities, there was quite a bit of disappointment reported by such persons with regard to their voting experience.

Voters with disability had to tackle issues such as steep or non-existent ramps, lack of railings along the ramps and unreachable EVMs and VVPATs.

Amidst the celebrations aimed at increasing election participation of persons with disabilities, Kavita’s father Rajinder (52) broke down. “We have been turned away by every school we approached for her admission,” he said.

It was a bittersweet moment for the family of a visually impaired girl from East Delhi who received a braille voter ID card Thursday. Kavita Kumar (19) was one of the 50 visually impaired people from the area, including a few first time voters, who collected the card from Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh at an event at Kashmere Gate.

Visually challenged artistes from Pune commemorate PL Deshpande

Visually challenged artistes will perform ‘Teen Paishacha Tamasha’, a play written by Pu La Deshpande, Marathi literature icon, to mark his 100th birth anniversary today.

The inaugural show of the play will take place today, at Balgandharva Rangmandir at 12.30 pm. The play has 27 visually challenged artistes in its cast, directed by Swagat Thorat and produced by Vina Dhole and Rashmi Pandhare.

CHENNAI: When Ummul Khair decided to select her candidate from the Electronic Voting Machine, she realised that the button to select to finalise her vote was too far to reach. Thus, the wheelchair user and advocate had to speak to officials about the issue and seek assistance before she was able to vote.
