With the assistance of visually impaired braille readers, Sporsho is helping visually impaired visitors navigate through their stall in an easier manner.

Sporsho, a braille book publication centre, has set up their stall at the book fair premises with the aim of satiating the book cravings of visually impaired people.

The distinguished publication house promotes itself with the slogan: “People are blind not because they are unable to see with their eyes, but because they do not have the knowledge to visualize life from within.”

For blind craftsman Omar Ali, his disability is a constant reminder that life is beautiful in spite of a person’s hardships and struggles.

 

Even though he doesn’t see them, the spectrum of colours has changed his life for the better.

 

Omar, 52, raises a family of seven by making colourful rattan tudung saji, or food covers, at his home in Ulu Melaka, Langkawi.

MLAVI Denounces ‘Differently Abled’ Tag

SHILLONG : The Meghalaya Liberation Association of Visually Impaired (MLAVI) raised concern on the attitude of the society towards persons with disabilities (PWDs) who often call them differently abled.

Speaking to reporters, president of the association, Elkin Rynniaw said, “The society often looks down upon us by calling us blind, deaf which affects us psychologically. According to us, to call us differently abled is disrespectful to us.”

Ludhiana: The Punjab Sports department will open a special coaching centre for the visually impaired, as well as disabled athletes from across the district in the multi-purpose hall of the Guru Nanak Stadium. This has come days after 'Ludhiana Times of India' reported the plight of local blind athletes who took part in the recently concluded National Blind Athletic Meet. With this, players can get the latest coaching techniques from well-qualified government coaches to fulfil their ambitions in the sports field.
