Accessibility was under the spotlight like never before in the recently held general elections in India. For the first time ever, an audit was conducted by members of the disability sector on the areas of concern and what should be looked at closely going ahead.

Accessible Elections was the much talked about buzzword in this general election and for the first time in India's history, the disability sector held a nationwide audit on how the accessible features actually panned out on the ground.

To raise awareness on ‘avoidable blindness’, visually-impaired man to run from Mumbai to Pune

On May 31, Amarjeet Singh Chawla, 63, will set off on a marathon from Mumbai to Pune, a distance of about 150 km. Chawla, who is visually impaired, will do so to raise awareness about the the issue of ‘avoidable blindness’.
Chawla will be part of the awareness marathon — ‘No More Avoidable Blindness’ — an initiative of the National institute of Ophthalmology (NIO) Vision Marathon. He has already participated in 174 races, 106 half marathons, 64 10-km runs and four ultra marathons.

Beyond Braille series brings to blind children a new visual language

It’s called Ranchhod Sees the World and it’s an illustration picture book about Ranchhod Soni, a visually impaired teacher in Gujarat, who has not disability come in the way of discovering new things.

Bringing his story alive in a vivid and vibrant way for the first time is the Beyond Braille series which claims to offer breakthrough research to help visually impaired people visualise and imagine the world.

Job profile of the Project Coordinator:
1. Implement project related to assistive technologies for the visually impaired under the supervision of the Project Manager.
2. Liaison with other NGOs, Universities, schools, corporates to engage them in project activities
3. Conduct awareness workshops on technological solutions for the visually impaired
4. Compile and maintain data related to the project and prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports in the prescribed formats
5. Prepare case studies of project beneficiaries

NAB POSITION: ICT TRAINER

Job profile of the ICT Trainer:
1. Conduct computer training for blind and low vision persons of all age groups
2. Conduct workshops on using smart phones and other assistive technology products
3. Assist the Helpline for the Blind and the Digital Library as per requirements
4. Maintain the computers, networks and software installed in the labs
