Does cataract affect youngsters too?

For a long time, cataract was considered a condition that only affected people aged 55 years and above. In recent years, however, we have seen more and more cases of cataract in people as young as 35-40 years! While it is true that cataract is more cases of cataract in people as young as 35-40 years! While it is true that cataract is more commonly seen in the elderly, many people with certain ‘risk factors’ are developing it at an early age.

CHENNAI: Five people with disabilities were honoured for their achievements and contributions to the disabled community, at the 17th edition of the CavinKare Ability Awards function on Saturday. 
The prestigious Ability Mastery Award went to para-athletic champion Venkatachalam M  from  Gudiyatham for his trail-blazing show in the International Para Games in Thailand in 2018. Venkatachalam was left with a severe disability after a road accident and worked in a mobile recharge shop but went on to win gold and silver at the games.

Blind football coach Trilochan Behera and blind footballer Samar Nandi from Odisha would attend the coaches’ and players’ training session for new and upcoming blind football trainers to be held in Kochi from February 26 to 28.

The training session is being organised by the Indian Blind Football Federation (IBFF) in association with the England FA Blind Football Association.

Growing up in Shimoga, Karnataka, I could never participate in games or play outdoor sports like my friends and classmates did. I had 75% vision disability, which limited my sports options and I would stay indoors during games period, which was quite lonely.

To raise voice for people with physical disabilities and to create a disabled friendly/accessible Kerala, Jyothirgamaya Foundation, an organisation working towards the empowerment of visually-challenged people, in association with Yagna Dhruva ’19, the inter-collegiate techno-cultural fest hosted by LBS Institute of Technology for Women, and Sahridhaya are conducting an accessible walk and a flash mob on Friday. The event is aimed to bring differently abled people out and shed light on their urgent need for inclusion and accessibility in all respects.
