Visually impaired continue hunger strike

Members of the Netraheen Kalyan Manch here today continued their hunger strike in protest against the state government for failing to fulfil their long-pending demands.

Spokesman of the Manch, Ravish Kumar, said the government had filled 136 posts against the total of 182 vacancies in the group D category for visually-impaired employees. The government had failed to fill the backlog of reserved posts since 1995, he added.

Visually-challenged teen pins down man who molested her on Mumbai local train

A 15-year-old visually-challenged girl got a man, who molested her on a Mumbai local train, arrested. But, this was no plain arrest. The child, trained in self-defence and karate, caught her molester’s hand, and twisted it till he was forced down to his knees in pain.

Using mobile phones to educate visually-impaired students

For 50 visually-impaired government school students aged between 14 and 16 years in Chhattisgarh, it marked the beginning of new hopes and a freedom from Braille. With the help of latest mobile technology, these excited children were trained to study their textbooks, helping them overcome their physical challenge in a way they did not think was possible before this. Each of them got a phone which had preloaded accessible textbooks, and they were taught to study these textbooks using latest mobile applications.   

First floodlight match for visually-challenged to be held in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: To encourage sportsmanship among the visually-challenged players, IDL foundation in association with the Karnataka Blind Sports Association (KBSA) will host ‘Floodlight Blind Cricket’ in the city. The fifth season of Blind Cricket League T-10 is named “Ambi Cup -2018’, in the memory of Ambareesh.

A total of 28 teams will participate in BCL season 5, which includes two women teams, 2twomasters teams, 16 district teams and 12 teams from various schools in the state.

The Election Commission of India had given special facilities to the disabled to join the voting process in the recently concluded Assembly elections -2018 in Madhya Pradesh. Its effect was that the people of the state voted without any inconvenience.

Visually impaired voter Rani Patel of Jabalpur is delighted to vote for the first time with the help of Braille script guide.

She says that she has voted several times but Braille script guide was made available to her for the first time which she found to be very useful in making voting easier for her.

Himself a  100% blind youth, the 24-year-old Delhiite has broken  barriers around visual impairments and the difficulties  this can pave to those wanting to pursue a career in science.  He is working at bridging the gap between the able bodies  and the disabled.
