The Election Commission of India had given special facilities to the disabled to join the voting process in the recently concluded Assembly elections -2018 in Madhya Pradesh. Its effect was that the people of the state voted without any inconvenience.

Visually impaired voter Rani Patel of Jabalpur is delighted to vote for the first time with the help of Braille script guide.

She says that she has voted several times but Braille script guide was made available to her for the first time which she found to be very useful in making voting easier for her.

Lending a hand to smash barriers together

NEW DELHI: For Kartik Sawhney, a computer science professional with Microsoft in Seattle, US, helping the  disabled access the sciences is a life mission. Himself a  100% blind youth, the 24-year-old Delhiite has broken  barriers around visual impairments and the difficulties  this can pave to those wanting to pursue a career in science.  He is working at bridging the gap between the able bodies  and the disabled. 

12 participants from State leave for Delhi

As many as 12 blind men and women from the State under the guidance of National Association for the Blind, Odisha State branch left on Thursday to take part in the 21st USHA National Athletics Championship for the Blind to be held in New Delhi from December 10 to 13.

The championship is being organised by the Indian Blind Sports Association in which the participants to take part in different events like 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 800 meter and 1,500 meter sprint race, long jump, shot put throw, discuss throw and others.

Telangana election: More than 4,000 volunteers to assist differently-abled voters

HYDERABAD: More than 4,000 volunteers will be in place to help differently-abled including visually-impaired voters in the city on the election day. Of the total volunteers, 3,000 will be deployed at polling stations in Hyderabad district and rest will be helping voters in Ranga Reddy district.

Visually impaired block Metro track

LAHORE: Lahore Metro Bus operation remained suspended on Thursday after dozens of visually impaired persons staged a sit-in at Kalma Chowk for the job quota.

They blocked the track, protesting against the government for not announcing job quota for them. They also demanded regularisation of their jobs.

They said the government was not honouring the commitments it made to them during their previous protests.
