The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur on Friday announced to launch "haptic smartwatch for the blind and visually impaired" in association with Ambrane India Private Limited for mass manufacturing and sales of the smartwatch.
The haptic smartwatch comes in two variants and has 12 touch-sensitive hour markers arranged over the dial face, and the users will be required to scan the markers with their fingers.
VIJAYAWADA: Although there are no full-fledged facilities in the State for the visually impaired and partially visually impaired students to be given an opportunity in the corporate sector, there are as many as 176 types of jobs available in India that are based on digital skills in the sector.

The Delhi High Court recently directed the Delhi government’s education department to ensure that there is no scarcity of teachers in primary schools meant for visually impaired students.

Assam has become the 36th State/UT to implement One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC). With this, the ONORC plan is successfully implemented in all the 36 states/UTs, making food security portable throughout the country.
The State government exempted all the visually-impaired employees from marking attendance through the Facial Recognition Based Attendance System (FRBAS) until the attendance systems are made accessible to them.
The Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, through G.O. M.S. No. 1 on Friday, from the Department for Women, Children, Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, had issued instructions to all concerned officials in the State to follow the new guidelines for this section of employees.
PANJIM: The State Commission for Disabilities Rights has proposed before the government to set up a separate department for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) on the lines of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
State Commissioner Guruprasad Pawaskar informed that with the addition to the types of disabilities, the number of PwDs has increased to nearly 90,000 in the State.

Kakinada: Kakinada district collector Kritika Shukla has instructed officials to identify a site for construction of a home for the blind in Kakinada. She also ordered that the new building being built for the deaf and dumb school be completed at the earliest.
The department for welfare of the disabled is running a disability training and production centre, a hostel for disabled, and a home and school for the blind.
