A new Artificial Intelligence powered solution called Drishti has been developed by Accenture in order to improve the lives and work of the visually impaired. Drishti – Sanskrit for vision – will enhance the way visually impaired people experience the work all while improving workplace productivity.

The Delhi High Court Friday wondered how a wheelchair provided by the railway authorities would help a visually-impaired person who requires human assistance in catching a train at a railway station.

The court said a visually or speech impaired person does not require a wheel chair as they walk themselves and need human assistance.
 

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar made the observation while going through a status report filed by the railways that they were providing wheelchairs to differently-abled persons at the station.

Visually impaired Santosh Kumar Moharana has been selected to get the prestigious ‘Shambhavi Puraskar-2018’. He will receive a citation and cash award of Rs 2.5 lakh from Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) Chairman Subroto Bagchi on April 21.

PANJAB UNIVERSITY has finally launched a formal equal opportunity cell for people with disabilities (EOC-PwD) on the lines of the SC/ST Cell. Students said they have been struggling for the past two years to get the cell established as it exists in other top universities such as Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University. According to the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, all universities and colleges should form an equal opportunity cell for SC, ST, OBC and PWD students.

Defying all odds, at 31, Brahmananda became the first visually-impaired judge in Rajasthan.

A civil judge and judicial magistrate of Sarwar town of Ajmer district, Brahmananda grew up in Bhilwara and studied in a government school. He cleared the 2013 Rajasthan Judicial Services Examination in the first attempt, securing the 83rd rank, reported The Times of India.

Kiefer Jones, a former Fairmont resident who lives in Calgary, played in the 2018 Canadian National Blind Hockey Tournament in Toronto March 30th to April 1st.

Players from across the country were divided according to their level of sight and skill and placed into teams, Mr. Jones said. Those who are fully blind played as goalies, while those who have limited vision filled the rest of the positions.

“The people are still pretty fast,” Mr. Jones said, adding that friends and family members watching the games “almost forget that people are visually impaired.”

The Panjab University (PU) authorities have declared e-rickshaws free for the physically-challenged students on the campus.

 

Earlier, the service was given for free to only the poor physically challenged students. But when no student came forward with the application, the PU has declared it free for all of them.
