Addressing the gaps of implementation in government provisions

26 year old Ajay Sharma (name changed) was born as a sighted child to a farmer family in Solapur, Maharashtra. He has two elder brothers, one works as a telephone operator and the other repairs sewing machines. At the age of 4, Ajay was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa which led to a rapid vision loss, leaving him completely blind in a span of 6 months. His family turned hopeless from the time of Ajay’s diagnosis and showed no form of support in coping with his disability.

A case of lost identity

25 year old Gopal Kulkarni (name changed) was born blind in Rui Talav village in Maharashtra. He is the third of the four children born to his parents, remaining three sighted. Gopal’s parents were deeply disappointed at the birth of a blind child and so they wanted to have a fourth child to make up for their loss. Given their lack of education and weak economic status, Gopal’s parents were unaware of the potential of a blind person and had no will or resources to invest in him.

Cricket meet for blind from today

Chandigarh: The National Cricket Tournament for Blind will be held at Panchkula from January 18 to 21. The championship will be played at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3, Panchkula. A total of eight teams -- Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Punjab, West Bengal, Odisha and Chandigarh -- will participate in the event. An 11-member team will include players of B1, B2 and B3 categories. The bowler will be only allowed to bowl underarm while the players of B3 categorises will play after being blindfolded. “We are trying to bring more and more teams.

India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets to set up a title clash with arch-rivals Pakistan in the Blind Cricket World Cup.

A dominant India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets to set up a title clash with arch-rivals Pakistan in the Blind Cricket World Cup, in Ajman on Wednesday.

Man of the Match Ganeshbhai Muhudkar’s century steered India home comfortably. He scored 112 in just 69 balls.

Bangladesh had won the toss and elected to bat. They scored 256 all out in 38.5 overs.

Defending champions India will take on Pakistan on January 20 at Sharjah.

Silver Linings has been running Shiksha Preparatory School for visually impaired girls in Mayur Vihar Phase 3, East Delhi, since January 2017.

Here we prepare  visually impaired girls in Braille, tailor frame, mobility skills  ,  computer skills plus in all independent  living skills. And once they have learnt all the required skills, we admit them into mainstream schools. After school support is also provided.
We support their education and training till they become economically independent!

The three-day National Games for Visually Impaired, organised by the state unit of the National Federation for Blind, concluded at Guru Nanak Stadium here today.

 

Over 300 participants accompanied by their guardians from across the country, including far off places such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh and Assam, took part in approximately 114 track and field events held during the games.

 

200 years after Braille, the code is still relevant

The word 'Braille' has become synonymous with the cluster of raised dots on a piece of paper which the blind would run their fingers over to read.

But the much revered coded text for the blind actually bears the name of its French inventor, whose birthday organisations and blind individuals across the globe celebrate on January 4.

The athletes, who are taking part in the ongoing National Games for Visually Impaired, are source of inspiration. One should learn from them as they present exemplary discipline on ground.

This was stated by the MLA, Simarjit Singh Bains, who was the chief guest on the second day of these games, being held at Guru Nanak Stadium here. He appreciated special athletes for their passion and commitment while competing in various track and field events.
