A delegation of differently abled people met the Bharatiya Janata Party Uttarakhand unit president Ajay Bhatt demanding a strong Divyang Ayog, reservation in politics and some amendments in Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. In a memorandum submitted to the BJP State president, the delegation has demanded the restructuring of Divyang welfare committee at the State level.
Nakilat recently organised a bowling session for the visually impaired in co-operation with the Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind. Volunteers from Nakilat acted as guides, some of them were blindfolded during the session to better appreciate the challenge of bowling without the sense of sight. Bowling is one of the few sports that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, and blind bowling has proven to be very popular with the use of guide rails.

National Abilympics Association of India (NAAI) organizes Regional, National Abilympics, and facilitates participation in International Abilympics. NAAI is in its 15th year of existence.

It could be the friendships with people in our community, workplace, gym, or school. Close friendships can evolve with the people we’ve known for a few months, years, or since we were kids. Personally, I spend a lot of time cultivating and nurturing an array of friendships, while also striving to be a good friend.

So many in our country are shocked at the mention of photography by the blind, they cannot seem to wrap their head around the concept. Why and how would a blind person take a photograph? Like most photographers, persons with blindness too have been drawn to photography out of a curiosity to explore the world through images.
There is need for more advocacy to ensure people with visual impairment are not discriminated in the labour market and social protection programmes for them to avoid begging culture.
The appeal was made at a news conference organised by Rwanda Union of Blind in Kigali, last week.
Dr Patrick Suubi, legal representative of the Union, said employers need to give a chance to visually impaired people to demonstrate their ability.
Blind and visually-impaired people in the country can now read any printed Nepali characters using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software, which was launched on Monday.

BENGALURU: While the Internet has become a basic human necessity, the blind and visually impaired have little means to access it. As a way to help such people, a group of engineers from the city have built a device that converts online text into braille.
Called Sparsh, the device uses electro-mechanical technology that reproduces the content of a smartphone or a computer on a rolling display in braille. Powered by a Dynamic Braille Board or dBB, it enables streaming of digital data into its equivalent braille output in real-time.
