Imphal, July 20 2017: Recent transfer and posting order issued by the Directorate of Education (s) has caused a serious inconvenience and felt discriminated to visually impaired upper primary teacher.

In a statement by Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Able Persons, Manipur the Directorate of Education(s) overlooked the transfer and policy guideline of Person with disability order by the government.

At the ongoing counselling at Anna University, response from persons with disability has been poor. This year, following an order issued by the government, the university authorities had increased the number of seats reserved for candidates with disability to 5% of the total allotted seats.

SMRC HONOURS 20 KIDS WITH DISABILITIES

The Shanta Memorial Rehabilitation Centre (SMRC) observed its 32nd foundation day here on Tuesday.

Prior to the programme, talent hunt competitions were organised among children with disabilities of 10 special schools of the twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. About 200 children had participated.

Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department Secretary Niten Chandra and renowned disability activist Jeeja Ghose graced as guests and felicitated 20 children of different schools for their talent.

A New Approach to Indoor Navigation by Microsoft

This is an Android  based  app for navigating indoor spaces. This is currently a research project at Microsoft and interested people can try out this app and provide their feedback to Microsoft. This navigation approach does not use beacons, so it is not limited by physical infrastructure deployment.

App that narrates the world for blind

New York, July 13

Tech giant Microsoft has released an iPhone app, including in India, that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help the blind and visually impaired see world around them like never before.

The free ‘Seeing AI’ app can read out short snippets of text, describe people, identify products and currency denominations, and take a stab at identifying the objects in a person’s surroundings.

Professor shows the vision to make way for job to the hearing impaired

COIMBATORE: Even as the State government has ordered a vigilance probe on the recent recruitment done by the Bharathiar  University, a visually challenged Assistant Professor at the Social Work department of the University, resigned saying it should have been reserved for a hearing impaired. He added he did not want to continue in a post that belongs to someone else.
