The city is likely to get a Blind Football Academy (BFA), the first ever exclusive academy for differently-abled talents in the country soon.
The Society for Rehabilitation of Visually Challenged (SRVC) and the Indian Blind Federation (IBFF) are making an effort to establish the same.
Speakers at a dialogue in the city on Thursday demanded forming a separate ministry for persons with disabilities as it can take up special steps to ensure their rights and integrate them with the mainstream of development.
"We demand a separate ministry for persons with disabilities for their overall welfare," Access Bangladesh Foundation Chairperson CM Tufail Sami told the dialogue while presiding over it at CIRDAP auditorium.
State Minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan joined the dialogue as the chief guest.

According to the Journal of American Family Physicians (Vol. 60/No. 1), approximately one person in three has some form of vision-reducing eye disease by the age of 65 in the U.S.A. The prevalence of visual impairment among the elderly is much higher in developing countries like India. The most common causes of vision loss among the elderly are age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataract, and diabetic retinopathy.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Visually impaired employees of different government departments staged a protest demonstration at commissioner’s office over nonpayment of their salaries for the last four months.
The protesters took out a rally from Kachehri Chowk to commissioner’s office and blocked traffic for hours. Dozens of employees working on daily wages and contract basis in Municipal Corporation, special education and social welfare departments participated in the rally.
