Life is what happened while Ian White was making other plans. Diagnosed with congenital glaucoma at six months of age, he had experimental surgery and it saved his sight. He wore glasses from the age of 2, which gave him vision well into adulthood. Although he hated wearing them as a kid and found plenty of innovative ways to ditch his glasses including burying them in his sandbox, they did what they were supposed to.

Born visually-impaired, this assistant professor in Political Science cleared all the obstructions with his willpower and dedication to achieve his dream. He chose ‘Decentralisation and Development in Urban Local Government: A Study of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation 1995-2005’ as his topic.

Chandigarh students design glove to help blind ‘feel the world around’

Imagine a visually-impaired navigating through a crowded sidewalk or finding his way through traffic, without the aid of a walking stick or another person. In the near future, a blind person would be able to do so — by wearing a glove.

In a revolutionary technology, a city-based young student has come out with a device that can help the blind 'run through obstacles, or win a hurdle race' - in Abhinav Verma's own words.

India's Algorithms wins best film trophy at Film South Asia festival

Algorithms, a documentary about blind chess players in India, won the Ram Bahadur Tamang Best Film Trophy at the 9th Film South Asia (FSA) festival in Kathmandu.

The fest cocluded here Sunday.

The documentary tells the story of three visually impaired chess players, who compete at championships around the world.

Going beyond sight and story, the documentary, produced by Geetha J., delves into the hidden realms of subjectivity.

Directed by Ian MacDonald, it was completed in three years.

Software provides easy access to Braille music scores

Hiroko Oyamaguchi is volunteer transcriber who transforms musical scores into Braille, enabling visually impaired musicians to read the notes.

It can be a long process even for a 30-year veteran like Oyamaguchi, 62, who says a complicated piece of Debussy music can take her up to a month to complete.
That all began to change in 2006.
