Training Announcement - XRCVC Math Efficiency Workshop Levels 1, 2 & 3

The Xavier's Resource Centre for the Visually Challenged (XRCVC), St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, is happy to announce its first Vacation batch of the Math Efficiency training programmes for visually challenged persons.

Proposed Training Dates: October 22 - November 5, 2016

(with a short break on the key Diwali dates.)

Three separate workshops will be conducted, as follows;

- Math Efficiency Workshop Level 1 for Class 1 to Class 3

Disaster management activities in the State are set to become inclusive for persons with disabilities, helping them access relief services and support during emergency situations.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) is working on a project to help an estimated 7,93,937 persons with 22 different types of disabilities ranging from blindness, autism, muscular dystrophy, and hearing impairment to epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy to cope with the multiple hazards.

NAGPUR: When computers were a relatively new concept in Nagpur during the 1990s,Pramod Bhalerao, a physically challenged professor from Government Institute of Science, was in much demand, on account of his mastery over the machine. He decided to dedicate his expertise and vast knowledge of computers for the welfare of disabled and handicapped youths from the city.

Karnataka transport department website is now disabled-friendly

BENGALURU: The Transport Separtment has recently launched its redesigned website (www.transport.karnataka.gov.in) and e-payment system. The website also has special features for the visually challenged and colour blind people.

Transport minister R Ramalinga Reddy said users can increase or decrease the font size of the content, which is also visible in standard contrast and high contrast which is very helpful to colour blind people.

Specially-challenged workers protest non-disbursal of wheelchairs by govt

Demanding filling of backlog of over 5,000 posts, employment according to capability and enhancement of pension, hundreds of physically-disabled persons, mostly Dalits, are sitting on a protest for more than past four months in Mansa.

Protesters said a panel meeting with Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal was held on June 18 where some of their demands were met on paper only as they turned to be ‘false promises’.

NVDA has come a long way both in terms of its functionality, ease of access and integration with pleasant user-friendly voices.
The one-day workshop would help the user make the transition towards using NVDA as their primary screen reader.

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday asked Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to file reply within four weeks in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) highlighting the difficulty faced by blind persons in identifying currency notes and coins.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Manjula Chellur, while hearing a petition filed by National Association for the Blind (NAB), asked the central bank to submit its response within a month and allowed the petitioner to file a rejoinder within two weeks of RBI filing its reply.

Walk for Vision

The Daan Utsav team in Gujarat has been celebrating this event during 2nd to 8th October every year. This year, Blind People's Association and Ahmedabad Optical Association have organized "Walk for Vision" as per
following program as a part of celebration of Daan Utsav. The members of Ahmedabad Optical Association have already committed providing 12,500 spectacles poor school girls of Ahmedabad slums and rural areas - a

City railway station to become visually-impaired friendly soon

BENGALURU: Nearly a year after the Mysuru railway station became the first in the country to put in place facilities for the visually impaired, the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna railway station in Bengaluru is all set to emulate it.

The same non-governmental organisation that made it possible in Mysuru will be implementing it in the City too.
