New Delhi: Gurugram-based legal edtech company LawSikho has announced 100 percent scholarships for 500 persons with disabilities (PWD). The candidates who complete the courses successfully will be co-certified by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Jammu, Oct 11: Scripting a narrow victory by 10 runs over formidable Delhi, Haryana lifted the title trophy in the Inter-State Cricket for blind, organised jointly by Cricket Association for Blind Jammu and Kashmir (CABJK) and Cricket Association for Blind Kerala (CABK) in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council at MA Stadium, here today.
Batting first, Haryana scored 188 runs. Rohit Sharma top scored with 70 runs. For Delhi, Mukesh Kumar bagged 1 wicket.

Distribution of smart phones to visually challenged girls by Pune MP Girish Bapat

A function was recently held at the Community Eye Care Foundation’s Vision Aid centre at Bhandarkar road to distribute the smart phones to 11 visually impaired girls by Pune MP Girish Bapat. The purpose was to introduce them to mobile technology. They will be given 3 months training regarding use of phones to use the internet and distance learning, Dr Parikshit Gogate, director at the centre and noted ophthalmologist said.

Serving Army officer allowed norms relaxation for MBA programme

The Academic Council of Kerala University on Friday decided to admit a candidate with 100% visual impairment to BSc Physics course.

While the undergraduate (UG) prospectus of the university has thus far permitted admissions for only visually impaired candidates with less than 40% disability to Science subjects, the current decision is likely to enable more differently-abled aspirants to pursue higher education.
 

Visually impaired chess player develops website

Pradhan, 22, counted among the top three blind chess players in India started working on the software application in 2019 for his own convenience. In 2022, he felt that he should vtake it to the masses and launched the website, accessiblech.herokuapp.com. “The website is more friendly for blind chess players compared to the existing ones that they use to learn and play chess. Almost all top blind players of India are using my website because it helps them play with ease,” he told TOI.

The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled announced the 12 days of IndusInd Bank National Coaching Camp for 29 players at Faith Cricket Club Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, from September 22, 2022 – October 04, 2022.

The selection committee of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India will shortlist the best 17-member squad to represent India at the 3rd T20 World Cup Cricket for the Blind from December 05 2022. Eight countries will represent the 3rd T20 World Cup, with 39 matches played across multi cities of India.

Twitter makes it easy for the visually impaired to read images

Twitter has rolled out a feature to help blind and visually-impaired people read images embedded with the tweets via its new image description reminder.

The new image description reminder will encourage more people on Twitter to add helpful descriptions to the images they tweet, the company said in a statement.

Alternative text, or alt text, is a written description of what's in an image that can be picked up by screen reader software used by the visually impaired.
