Arrunga Men’s Shed is modifying a table tennis table for a visually impaired version called Swish

THE gentlemen at the Arrunga Community Men’s Shed in Ermington do an extraordinary job of fixing and creating, but their latest job is one with a difference.
 
They are modifying a table-tennis table so that it can be used by blind and vision-impaired people for their own version of table-tennis called swish.
 
Swish also allows vision-impaired and sighted people to play on almost equal terms.
 
A swish table is about 60cm longer than a regular table-tennis table and the net is actually a wall.

Atul Ranjan Sahay, a visually impaired person joined as a member of Lions Club of Jamshedpur Tatanagar. Membership of Lions Club of Atul Ranjan Sahay for his Lions Club was sponsored by Rajnish Kumar, Second Vice District Governor(Elect) which was readily agreed by the Club Board. He joined the club with two other new members Vijay Kumar Singh and a lady Nutan Gupta. Sahay is a senior manager at Tata Steel.

Chelsea yoga instructors offer class to help benefit Seva Foundation

Area yoga teachers will be offering a special class to benefit the visually impaired.

Local teachers Janine Bennett, Andrea Jennings, Nicole Tweedie, Sue Whitmarsh and Joan Wolf will be joining Michelle Massey-Barnes in her studio as part of Yoga for Sight from 6-7:30 p.m., Friday, June 20 at the Chelsea Clocktower. The event will help the Seva Foundation’s work to help people see again.

The Seva Foundation was founded in Chelsea 35 years and is now based in California. The foundation has helped 3.5 million to see again.

Disabled-friendly Odisha govt websites by August 15

 The state government is planning to make government web portals disabled-friendly with screen readers, resizing of texts and colour contrast scheme by August 15.

Screen reader is a software application that interprets the display on a computer and presents it to an user in a text-to-speech, sound icon or Braille form, making the contents accessible to the blind.

Have you ever thought to yourself: "I'd rather be dead than disabled?" It's not an unusual reflection. Disability, in everyday thought, is associated with failure, with dependency and with not being able to do things. We feel sorry for disabled people, because we imagine it must be miserable to be disabled.
