Magic in their hands

A reflexology session leaves Vipasha Sinha not only relaxed, but also inspired. From a clutch of visually-impaired therapists, she learns what it means to make the most of life

A testimony in the feedback book of Naturals Beauty Salon on R.K. Salai: “Uthira Kumar has magic in his hands.” You know it is true when he gets to work. Like a magician sending his subjects into a trance at a snap of his fingers, 30-year-old reflexology therapist Uthira has his clients feeling drowsy by skilful use of his fingers on their feet.

Transcending barriers for creativity

For the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged youth, life is often a confrontation, with challenges coming in multitudes unlike an abled man or woman. It is often left to the individual alone to face these barriers and rise above his or her disability. There are many stories of such people who challenged life and overcame their incapability, either on their own or with a little support.

For a group of 14 people, being able to recognise the creative side in them, has taken them across the world; recognition coming in all forms.

In Jamaica, visually impaired Adventist appointed senate president

Floyd Morris made history in Jamaica’s Parliament last week when he became the first visually impaired person appointed president of the Jamaican Senate, Parliament’s upper house.

The 44 year-old Seventh-day Adventist Church member is well-known in the Caribbean island nation for his advocacy on behalf of the disabled community.
