Disability, old age scheme for artists

The Information Communications and Culture Ministry is preparing a paper on the setting up of an old age scheme for artists to meet their special needs arising from disability or old age, the Dewan Negara was told today.

 

Its deputy minister, Datuk Joseph Salang said under the scheme, artists could pay subscriptions according to their ability until the age of 60 while the benefits and savings could be withdrawn upon maturity.

 

Disabled people can soon book rail tickets online

Soon, differently abled people can book rail tickets online at concessional fares that they are entitled to. At present, differently abled people have to go to railway reservation counters to book tickets if they want to avail the fare concession given by railways.

 

"The railway board is ready with the plan to facilitate online ticket booking for its special passengers," a senior official said.

Focus on disability as part of diversity strategy is highest in Indian companies (39%), according to Mercer's Asia Pacific Diversity & Inclusion study.

 

Over 90% of the participants surveyed listed gender as the main focus of their diversity efforts in India. Gender continues to be the top priority on the diversity and inclusion agenda for companies in Asia Pacific. Consistent with this focus, the most common diversity programs offered by companies in India are gender-related, such as mentoring (61%) and family-friendly policies (55%).

 

'Ensure disabled-friendly public buildings'

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday directed officials concerned to ensure facilities for differently-abled in all public building across the state.

For this purpose, the government would take a loan of Rs 115 crore from Housing and Urban Development Corporation, an official said here.

The facilities included lift, ramp and disabled-friendly toilets among others in all government buildings at sub-division, district and division level, he said.

Liverpool to wear blindness charity kit for Chelsea clash

Liverpool will don one-off new-look shirts when they face Chelsea at Anfield this evening to raise awareness for a blindness charity.

 

The usual Standard Chartered logo on the front of the red shirts has been replaced by the words Seeing is Believing, the name of a charity seeking to tackle avoidable blindness.

Cassettes for Blind People service scrapped by Hertfordshire County Council

A free service providing visually-impaired Hertfordshire residents with talking books by post has been scrapped and will be replaced with subscriptions to a charity library.
The Cassettes for Blind People (CfBP) service has 378 regular users and is described in council documents as "running at capacity".
Hertfordshire County Council local and libraries cabinet panel met on Wednesday afternoon to approve the discontinuation of the service which costs the council £51,000 per year to operate.

Mumbai is no stranger to luxury goods and services, just as it carries the dubious distinction of being the most unequal city in the world.
