Pune: Kusumlata Malik, president, National Federation of the Blind of India  (NFBI), emphasised the need for a separate education model  in the National Education Policy (NEP) to address academic   requirements of the visually impaired.
“Unless we bring  in changes in the education policy, the visually impaired  will not be able to pursue education like normal people,”  Malik, also a professor at Delhi University, said at an i international youth confat Alandi.

HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court on Monday asked Advocate  General BS Prasad to be the eyes of the visually impaired  children studying at the government schools for blind  children at Darul Shafa and Malakpet.

Nashik: Smruti Baragi, who is visually impaired, scored  83.7% in the HSC exam to bag the second position in her  college in the arts stream. A resident of Nashik, Baragi  is a student of the KTHM College. The youngest of three  siblings now wants to appear for the competitive examination  and join the civil services.
Baragi did her schooling  at National Association for the Blind and scored 89% in  the Class X. With both of her parents in the educational  sector, Baragi said, “The cooperation of my parents,  sisters and friends have helped men come out with flying  colours.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a special series of coins that are also ‘visually impaired friendly’.

The coins of Re 1, Rs 2, 5, 10 and 20 denominations will have the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) design are not commemorative coins and will be part of circulation.

“These new series of coins will remind people of the goal of amrit kal and motivate people to work towards the development of the country,” Modi said while addressing the iconic week celebration of the Ministry of Finance.
