Educational Qualifications & Other Requirements:

Twenty-three-year-old Vikas Karate was born totally blind to a poor family in Jalna district of Maharashtra. His paternal family only displayed apathy for the little boy, almost wanting to get rid of him many times. But Vikas’ mother made up for the love and care that his father never showed.
Due to lack of awareness and stigma associated with blindness, Vikas was seen as a mere burden on the family. He was confined to his home and never saw the insides of a school until he turned 10.

Food labels to have QR code to help the visually disabled

FSSAI says quick response codes should have comprehensive details about the product, including of ingredients, nutritional content and allergens; says move will ensure access to safe food for all.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has recommended the inclusion of QR code on food products for accessibility by visually impaired individuals stating that this will ensure access to safe food for all including individuals with special needs such as visually impaired individuals.

Aspiring to new heights

Umar Bandari lives in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir. He and two of his siblings are visually impaired. After losing his mother at an early age, he learned to take care of household chores as his father was busy working around the clock to feed the family.
Despite the vision problems, Umar prioritized his studies and worked hard in pursuing his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Kashmir University.  When he enrolled for a B.Ed. program, his vision deteriorated further, making reading a daunting task to undertake independently.
