ITANAGAR, Apr 11: The identification and assessment camp for distribution of aids and assistive devices to hearing, visual, intellectual and multiple disabilities, concluded at Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing Impaired on Tuesday.
The camp began on April 9 last.
Twenty-seven-year-old Pawan Gupta lives in Saran, Bihar. He was born sighted but started losing his vision when he was thirteen years old. He was diagnosed with Glaucoma.
Loss of vision led to dropping out of school as he could not keep up with the mainstream methods of teaching. He then took up a menial job but that too became difficult to carry out because of deteriorating eyesight.

Twenty-three-year-old Purushottam Kumar was born blind to a middle-class family in Bihar. His parents enrolled him in a special school from an early age where he grew up reading and writing in the Braille script. When he applied to move to a mainstream school after Class 8, he was denied admission on grounds of disability.
He lodged a complaint with the grievance cell in the district and the school was instructed to admit him. He scored exceedingly well in Class X and XII, forcing his school principal to alter his misconceived views about the ability of blind students.
