Training for visually impaired teachers

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and the Samagra Shiksha in Tamil Nadu are working towards equipping visually-impaired teachers in the State with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills. Around 1,500 such teachers in Tamil Nadu are working in mainstream schools across the State. Hope Foundation, an NGO in association with Dell Technologies, has facilitated this initiative with the School Education Department.

“For me, it is all about setting new records,” said Ajay Lalwani. The visually-impaired cyclist, who is currently on a 7,500 km journey across India to raise awareness about road safety and the need for adequate lighting on our country’s roads, says he wants to better himself and do all that the world believes is not possible for him.

 

BEDC offers scholarship, Braille to RUGIPO visually impaired student

Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Plc has awarded scholarship covering full tuition fees, monthly upkeep allowance, as well as presentation of a Braille keyboard, laptop and a recording device to Mr. Israel Ojo Temitope, a visually impaired Higher National Diploma I Mass Communication student of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State.

COVID-19 | Only 4,018 people with disabilities got both doses of vaccine till November-end

Figure represents only a tiny fraction of group’s total population of 26.8 million

Only 4,018 people with disabilities have received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine till November 28, as per figures released by the Health Ministry during the ongoing session of Parliament. It added that as per the CoWIN portal, 8,390 people with disabilities received the first dose.

As per Census 2011, the differently abled population in India stands at 26.8 million.

Divyang Sports Corner will be built in stadiums in every district: Haryana CM

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday announced to set up a Divyang Sports Corner in one stadium in every district.

While giving a gift to the Divyangjans on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Chief Minister also announced the construction of a new building of Government Blind School, Panipat and to provide Braille printers to blind officers.

Visually impaired Kiran Kumari to function as coordinator

A visually disabled assistant professor at Punjabi University will function as coordinator of its newly established Centre for Disability Studies here. The announcement was made during a district-level programme on December 3, the World Disability Day.

Punjabi University said the basic aim of the centre was to cater to the specific educational needs of persons with disabilities, visual impairment, physical disability, hearing impairment and others.

Smart vision spectacles for the visually-challenged in Hubli

RC Hubli Vidyanagar, RID 3170, inspired by the Project Drishti of Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME), RID 3232, launched the project ‘The Eye Story’, under which the club donated Smart Vision Glasses (SVS) designed by Smart Health Global, a ­Bengaluru-based IT company, to 16 ­visually-impaired ­students. “RCME helped us get in touch with the manufacturers and guided us through the ­process. Each device costs ₹25,000. VRL Logistics, Hubli, is partnering with us as part of their CSR ­venture,” says club ­president, Mahima Mohit.

Visually impaired Muskan from Himachal wins national level Golden Voice title

Visually impaired Muskan Negi, who was earlier made a youth icon for elections by the Election Commission, has added another feather to her cap by winning the national-level “Golden Voice” title.

She won the title at a competition organised by the National Association for the Blind and Golden Shine Trust at Delhi.The Bollywood song “Namak ishq ka” sung by her in the final round bagged her the first prize.
