Taking proper care of eye leads to reduction of blindness to a considerable extent. In most of the cases children and their parents, particularly those from the economically backward communities, are not aware of the sight deficiencies and the children eventually reach a stage when restoration of the eyesight becomes a serious problem. IEB feels that along with restoration of eyesight through cornea grafting, it should also work for prevention of blindness creeping into the sighted people.

Holy Cross Service Society (HCSS) Thiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu is a Non Governmental Organisation based in Trichy in Tamilnadu State. It is engaged in the disability field providing comprehensive services to nearly 2700 disabled children and adults. Some of the main activities include: Education through regular schools to blind, deaf, orthopaedic and educable mentally retarded children. Rural and urban pre-schools for deaf, preparation of deaf children for mainstream. Deaf children who cannot be integrated in regular schools are given education through the special school run by the society.
