Smart vision spectacles for the visually-challenged in Hubli

RC Hubli Vidyanagar, RID 3170, inspired by the Project Drishti of Rotary Club of Madras East (RCME), RID 3232, launched the project ‘The Eye Story’, under which the club donated Smart Vision Glasses (SVS) designed by Smart Health Global, a ­Bengaluru-based IT company, to 16 ­visually-impaired ­students. “RCME helped us get in touch with the manufacturers and guided us through the ­process. Each device costs ₹25,000. VRL Logistics, Hubli, is partnering with us as part of their CSR ­venture,” says club ­president, Mahima Mohit.

Visually impaired Muskan Negi, who was earlier made a youth icon for elections by the Election Commission, has added another feather to her cap by winning the national-level “Golden Voice” title.

She won the title at a competition organised by the National Association for the Blind and Golden Shine Trust at Delhi.The Bollywood song “Namak ishq ka” sung by her in the final round bagged her the first prize.

AirAsia India introduces in-flight safety manual for visually impaired guests

On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, AirAsia India on Friday introduced an in-flight safety manual in braille in collaboration with the Helen Keller Institute for the Deaf and Deafblind for the visually impaired passengers. Also, wheelchair assistance can now be pre-booked online on its website and app while getting a flight ticket, it said in a release.

Different types of wheelchair facilities are available to pre-book for persons with disabilities to access the ramp up to the ladder point or the aircraft door as well as to reach the cabin," it mentioned.

Srinagar: Saqib Ajaz Mir, a Class 10th visually impaired student of DPS Srinagar won the first position in the Classical Vocal category at the three-day long Divisional level, Kala Utsav held from November 20 to 23 at Girls Higher Secondary, Kothi Bagh Srinagar. He is a student of Learning Resource Centre, DPS Srinagar which focuses on providing holistic education to specially-abled students and integrating them with mainstream education.
