Employment Fair for persons with disabilities at CRC Patna
In India, according to Census 2001, there are 2.19 crore persons with disabilities in India who constitute 2.13 percent of the total population and only 34 per cent disabled are employed. The Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995 provides three percent reservation in employment in the all Govt. establishments. However, status of employed disabled is not good. There has been an increasing recognition of abilities of persons with disabilities and emphasis on mainstreaming them in society based on their capabilities.

Blind persons seek transfer of official
Around 200 visually-challenged persons staged a protest in Poonamallee on Tuesday against the head of the National Institute for the Visually Handicapped (NIVH).
They sought the official’s transfer for some remarks he made at a public meeting in August. The Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, New Delhi, has now issued a show-cause notice to the official.

They, along with sculptor Benode Behari Mukherjee who taught at Kala Bhavan in Santiniketan, feature in a 13-episode television documentary conceived by a man who is also blind.

Union Bank’s 101st Talking ATM in Bhubaneswar
Union Bank of India has launched its 101st Talking ATM in the country at Samantarapur in the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city. Which is the 4616th ATM of the Bank and first talking ATM in the state of Odisha and in Bhubaneswar. Chairman & Managing Director Shri D. Sarkar inaugurated the ATM in the presence of OAB (Odisha Association for the Blind) Office bearers, assembly of members, and valued customers. Bank’s Field General Manager, Kolkata Shri Raman Aggarwal and Shri R.P. Mishra, Deputy General Manager, Bhubaneswar were also present on the occasion.
Results of first National Para-Triathlon
The first National Paralympic Triathlon was held at Calcutta Sports Association yesterday, from 11 AM onwards. The event consisted of 750 m swimming, 20 Km cycling and 5 km running. Participants from 8 States (Karnataka, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Haryana, Bihar, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Tripura) could qualify to this National Championship. The event was organised by Civilian Welfare Foundation in association with Paschimbango Rajjo Pratibandhi Sammilani, Bengal Paralympic Swimming Association and Paralympic India Triathlon Association.
