Assam has become the 36th State/UT to implement One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC). With this, the ONORC plan is successfully implemented in all the 36 states/UTs, making food security portable throughout the country.

A.P. govt. exempts visually-impaired staff from facial attendance

The State government exempted all the visually-impaired employees from marking attendance through the Facial Recognition Based Attendance System (FRBAS) until the attendance systems are made accessible to them.

The Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, through G.O. M.S. No. 1 on Friday, from the Department for Women, Children, Differently Abled and Senior Citizens, had issued instructions to all concerned officials in the State to follow the new guidelines for this section of employees.

PANJIM: The State Commission for Disabilities Rights has proposed before the government to set up a separate department for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) on the lines of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. 

State Commissioner Guruprasad Pawaskar informed that with the addition to the types of disabilities, the number of PwDs has increased to nearly 90,000 in the State.

Congratulations are pouring in for Madhi Rathwa, a visually impaired person from a small village, who won gold at the National Athletics Championships held in Delhi.

He said on his social media website: I am thrilled that I have won the gold medal in the javelin throw category at the National Athletics Championship. I threw 15 meters in javelin throw in visually impaired category. This is considered my greatest achievement and pride. My thanks to our school and my sports coach.

Home for blind to come up in Kakinada

Kakinada: Kakinada district collector Kritika Shukla has instructed officials to identify a site for construction of a home for the blind in Kakinada. She also ordered that the new building being built for the deaf and dumb school be completed at the earliest.

The department for welfare of the disabled is running a disability training and production centre, a hostel for disabled, and a home and school for the blind.

BSES begins power bills in Braille for visually impaired

BSES also launched its upgraded and voice-enabled mobile apps -- the BRPL Power App for residents of south and west Delhi, and BYPL Connect for those residing in east and central Delhi.

Power distribution companies BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) on Wednesday launched electricity bills in Braille as part of their outreach to the visually impaired.

Non compliance and denial of rights

Twenty-year-old Angat Gupta was born into a lower middle-class family residing in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh. He is the only blind child among four siblings. Despite their challenging circumstances, Angat’s father ensured that the boy had access to education from an early age. He was enrolled in a special school for the blind where he was empowered to demand his rights as an equal citizen of the country.
