Born blind, Manoj found his calling in music early on in life, and with the support of his parents; he began his formal training at the age of seven and parallelly completed his education from the mainstream.
A rank-holder and a gold medalist from Mumbai University, he completed his Master of Fine Arts in Hindustani Classical Vocal Music in 1999 and took up a part-time job teaching music in a school.

Despite their challenging circumstances, Angat’s father ensured that the boy had access to education from an early age. He was enrolled in a special school for the blind where he was empowered to demand his rights as an equal citizen of the country.
