SC rules out interference in DU’s new programme

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled out any interference in Delhi University’s four-year undergraduate programme.

A vacation bench of Justice BS Chauhan and Justice Dipak Misra, however, said it would pass a direction to ensure all facilities are provided to visually challenged students.“These are policy matters and the court should not interfere in it,” the court said, asking the university to file an affidavit giving details of the facilities it intends to provide to blind students.

Panel suggests breather for students with disabilities

Students with disabilities may not have to study the foundation courses in Mathematics and Science, if recommendations by a Delhi University panel are implemented.

The committee, which had assessed impact of the implementation of the four-year undergraduate programme, sent its recommendations to the university administration on Tuesday.

Blind boy blazes trail, scores 95% in science

KartikSawhney had to wage a battle before being allowed to study science in class XI. The CBSE was not convinced Kartik, who is completely blind, would be able to handle the 'visual inputs' — graphs, diagrams, models — required for science. The doubters got their answer on Monday. Kartik scored a 95% aggregate in science with computers in class XII. 

Disability order on DU course reform

The Supreme Court today directed Delhi University to file an affidavit explaining the measures being undertaken to safeguard the interests of persons with disabilities in the proposed four-year bachelor’s degree course.

“You put it an affidavit, the various measures being undertaken by you and their (petitioner’s) grievances and what steps you are taking to address it,” the apex court told the university’s counsel while posting the matter for further hearing on Wednesday.

Floyd Morris made history in Jamaica’s Parliament last week when he became the first visually impaired person appointed president of the Jamaican Senate, Parliament’s upper house.


The 44 year-old Seventh-day Adventist Church member is well-known in the Caribbean island nation for his advocacy on behalf of the disabled community.

Visually impaired girl tops MP board exams

Beating all odds, a visually impaired girl, Shrishti Tiwari, from Damoh town has topped the Madhya Pradesh Higher Secondary examination in Arts stream.

The results were declared two days back by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education. For Shrishti, a student of JBP Government Higher Secondary School in Damoh, the achievement is special not only academically but also because of the fact that she is visually impaired since birth. She scored 481 out of 500 marks to emerge as the topper in Arts stream.

NEW DELHI: With admissions under PWD (Persons with Disability) category being decentralized, DU's Equal Opportunity Cell — which facilitated admissions into this category till last year — is working on a system that will make the process easier for applicants. A soon-to-be-constituted central enabling committee will serve as a monitoring body and also issue a special set of guidelines for colleges.
