The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is a major landmark in the history of disability rights movement. This convention is a reflection of the readiness of the international community to recognize that disability is a human rights issue that requires deeper understanding  and specific action to not to treat persons with disabilities as objects of charity in programmes and policies of countries.

Sarthak Medical Transcription Training for Visually Impaired

Sarthak Educational Trust in collaboration with EnAble India is launching medical transcription training programme for visually impaired persons. As you are aware, EnAble India has been conducting Medical Transcription Training for the visually impaired.

Similar programme is being run by EnAble India at Bangalore since 2008. As of now 20 visually impaired persons have been trained and most are already employed. The programme would be run with technical support from EnAble India.

National Workshop on Web Accessibility, June 2009

The Centre for Internet and Society (www.cis-india.org) and Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled (www.samarthanam.org) are organizing a workshop on web accessibility for web developers from the public and private sector from June 5 to 7, 2009. The workshop will take place at the Centre for Internet and Society office on Cunningham Road, Bangalore, between 09:30-17:30 hours each day.

1. We hope to invite representatives from a Bangalore-based social
networking group founded by students called AreaPal to introduce their
group. areapal allows users to locate and connect with people on the basis
of their area and neighborhood. It is a genuine neighbourhood networking
service. Apart from that, they also provide user-generated news, events and
marketplace based information about a user’s area.
