Most MBBS doctors with disabilities denied PG seats in AIIMS

Year after year, the bulk of MBBS doctors with disabilities who clear the post graduate entrance exam for seven All India Institutes of Medical Sciences, including the one in Delhi, are denied admission. Barely 0.4% of seats over the last three years have been given to them despite the disability rights law of 2016 stipulating a 5% reservation. Even the handful who have got admission were mostly given non-clinical subjects which have few takers.

MUMBAI:  A day after The New Indian Express detailed the travails of Naresh Tumda, who was part of the Blind Cricket Team that lifted the 2018 World Cup by trouncing Pakistan in the final, help started pouring in for the visually impaired cricketer on Tuesday.

Naresh Tumda reportedly received a phone call from the Gujarat government, offering a job in the next two three days.

Besides, he was approached by Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar’s Champs Foundation and actor Sonu Sood’s office.

KARACHI: Ali Khan Tareen and Fizza Hussain, who are visually impaired siblings, have converted their disability into an opportunity. They are inspiring other differently-abled people to follow their passion.

The siblings, who hail from Karachi, have started selling homemade traditional and fast food. “Being disabled does not mean you should stop achieving your dreams,” Fizza Hussain said while talking to M.M News.  

Chandigarh colleges likely to reopen on August 20

A detailed order meant for reopening of local colleges and universities will be issued on Friday, stated the office of the Director, Higher Education.

The colleges and universities are expected to open on August 20. “Detailed orders will be issued by Friday,” said Rubinderjit Singh Brar, Director, Higher Education.

Gaganjot Kaur, a student of Institute for the Blind, Sector 26, scored 95.4 per cent in her Class X exams, the results for which were declared by the CBSE on Tuesday.

With her determination Gaganjot showed that being visually impaired was no hurdle in achieving her dreams. “Students need to focus on their studies to accomplish their goals,” said Gaganjot.

Life has become a hell for this ill-fated visually impaired woman as she has been finding it hard to stay afloat.

Though the Government has implemented several poverty alleviation schemes, including providing subsidised food grains under the Food Security Act to support the distressed, but she has not been able to avail the benefits as she could not have her Aadhaar number.
