Thai computer technology centre develops braille notebook
The Braille notebook could make life much easier for visually impaired people in Thailand. The Braille notebook consists of a portable computer on which visually impaired users can key in information in Braille. The information can then be printed either in Braille or in text format.
Not-for-profit organisation broadcasts daily newspapers
It provides them with what listeners like Maureen describe: "I have JAWS screen reader and a computer at home, and I can go on a newspaper website to read but it’s not the same thing. Reading something that is written from text is different from listening to somebody giving you a little personal touch as these volunteer readers do."
A not-for-profit organisation, Cris Radio (Chicagoland Radio Information Service), has been bringing news from newspapers and magazines since 1977.
Experts closer to glaucoma cure
A team of ophthalmologists at the University of Liverpool (United Kingdom) has become the first in the world to image geodesic structures called Cross-linked Action Networks (Clans), inside the human body. They are formed from the components that maintain the structure of individual cells and are known to change the shape, function and lifecycle of cultured cells.
CSIR scientists develop microchip to detect eye infections
Under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (C.S.I.R.) - led New Millennium Indian Technology Leadership Initiative, the scientists have developed a microchip based on diagnostic methods for early intervention for infectious eye diseases and glaucoma. This was announced at the 93rd Indian Science Congress.

Attitude makes the difference

Rajinder Verma

Marla Runyan
The most successful IBSA athlete of all time is perhaps Marla Runyan of the USA. Nowadays, Marla is competing successfully in mainstream competition, although her sight category is probably B2 rather than the B3 it was when she took part in our competitions as a student.
Henry Wanyoike
Henry Wanyoike, a totally blind runner from Kenya , has many world records and gold medals to his credit. These include three gold medals at the Sydney and Athens Paralympics and world record at the marathon for the visually disabled, held in Boston, 2004.
