Mitra Jyothi is providing ASUS netbooks at subsidised cost of Rs. 9000. This scheme is for students who need computer for help with their higher education. These netbooks have been reconfigured for persons with low vision and blindness by installing all the required free and open source software.

Eligibility Criteria:

a) This scheme is only for students with low vision or blindness studying in 11th standard, 12th standard, or higher education.

b) Basic knowledge of computers is a must.

As part of the  new and enhanced public computer centers that are going in across Colorado public libraries, an accessible (ADA)  public computer is now available for public use at East Morgan County Library. This computer is designed for individuals with low vision, blindness, limited mobility, wheelchair users, learning disabilities, and other disabilities that might limit access to computers and the Internet. It includes a low vision keyboard, software and an adjustable table. 

A partnership between the State and Federal Governments has delivered 17 new homes across Tasmania for people with disability, the Minister for Human Services, Cassy O’Connor, said today.

At Newnham this morning, Ms O’Connor toured the two final units completed under the $3.42 million program.

“Each of these units has been built near an existing disability group home or other supported accommodation,” Ms O’Connor said.

The Information Communications and Culture Ministry is preparing a paper on the setting up of an old age scheme for artists to meet their special needs arising from disability or old age, the Dewan Negara was told today.

Its deputy minister, Datuk Joseph Salang said under the scheme, artists could pay subscriptions according to their ability until the age of 60 while the benefits and savings could be withdrawn upon maturity.

Soon, differently abled people can book rail tickets online at concessional fares that they are entitled to. At present, differently abled people have to go to railway reservation counters to book tickets if they want to avail the fare concession given by railways.

"The railway board is ready with the plan to facilitate online ticket booking for its special passengers," a senior official said.
