Enable votes in Braille, appeals visually impaired voter

A visually impaired voter, Shankar Khautankar on Wednesday requested elections authorities and the State government to provide voting in Braille to help several blind people to exercise their fundamental rights without the help of a companion.
Khauntankar, who is a voter of Ward 5 in Chicalim panchayat, expressed concern after he was informed that Braille cannot be made available under the provisions of the Panchayat Raj Act.

The Delhi High Court has formed a high-powered committee under the chairmanship of an IIT Delhi professor to look into the issues concerning accessibility of financial services to visually challenged persons.
A Bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad granted three months to the committee to submit its status report.

Twenty-three-year-old Siddharth Rao lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was born to an affluent family, with working parents. Siddharth lives with multiple disabilities including vision impairment, a physical as well as a learning disability.
He went to a mainstream school where he lost out on most topics because he was a slow learner, so his parents sent him to a special school where he could get proper attention from teachers. Siddharth completed Class XII from open schooling and decided not to study further.

Thirty-four-year-old Deepak Arora belongs to a middle-class family in Faridabad, Haryana. He had a comfortable life growing up, studied in a mainstream school and later secured an MBA in Finance.
All was going well, until he started losing vision two years ago. Deepak went to a lot of eye doctors after which he was diagnosed with a degenerating eye condition, Retinitis Pigmentosa. He began to face issues performing his job as an Assistant Manager in a BPO.
