HC notice to govt over non-distribution of ‘talking laptops’ to visually impaired
A PIL has been filed in the Karnataka High Court over the non-distribution of free ‘talking laptops’ to visually impaired students in the state. A division bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka ordered issuance of notice to the state government in response to the PIL filed by advocate S Umapathi.

ICICI Bank, the private sector lender, will charge a convenience fee for cash deposits by customers in cash recyclers during non-business hours and bank holidays. A fixed amount of ₹50 will be levied for each transaction on the bank holidays and between 6:00 pm and 8:00 am on working days, starting from Sunday, the lender mentioned.

The latest beta version of iOS packs a feature that can help visually impaired users to effectively maintain social distancing by indicating how far away other people are from them.
Apart from detecting the presence of people, it also measures the distance to people in the view of the iPhone's camera, TechCrunch reported on Saturday.
The feature should be available to iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max running the iOS 14.2 release candidate, said the report.

It was 2017 and Giridhar NV had just finished celebrating his 20th birthday with friends at home. He was living his childhood dream of studying mechanical engineering and was entering his third year at the CMR Institute of Technology in Bengaluru.
In a major relief to the blind employees of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Bombay high court (HC) on Wednesday directed the civic body to compensate employees by paying them salary arrears in two parts. The court held that the action of the BMC of not paying salaries to specially-abled employees for not attending work due to the pandemic was discriminatory and illegal. The BMC is to pay the employees the arrears in two parts – one before Diwali, and the second instalment after 45 days of paying the first instalment.
A special park will come up in Sector 22, which will focus on sensory engagement and be designed to encourage people of all abilities to play together, especially children.
The project is being anchored by the Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) and its board of directors will be presented with the final plan on October 27 for the approval.
