Rani Ithape of National Association Of Blind, Nashik, bags 81% in SSC; wants to teach

NASHIK: Rani Ithape, a visually impaired  daughter of a farmer from the Paithan taluka of Aurangabad  district who studies at the National Association for the  Blind (Nab) at Nashik topped the school with  81.4% marks in SSC.
Ithape, who has been  visually impaired since birth, wishes to pursue a career in  teaching. She wants to spread the light of knowledge and  help everyone — especially the visually impaired — just like  she got help from others. Both her parents are farmers and  her brother is pursuing his graduation.

After losing her vision at the young age of twenty-six, Melody hit rock bottom until she decided to fight and persevere through the disability. She went through rehabilitation, learned computer software, and assisted living skills, and made a re-entry into the world.

Pune: Kusumlata Malik, president, National Federation of the Blind of India  (NFBI), emphasised the need for a separate education model  in the National Education Policy (NEP) to address academic   requirements of the visually impaired.
“Unless we bring  in changes in the education policy, the visually impaired  will not be able to pursue education like normal people,”  Malik, also a professor at Delhi University, said at an i international youth confat Alandi.

Pune: Visually-impaired girls felicitated for winning national football tournament

Pune,11th June 2022: The Hindu Mahila Sabha felicitated eight blind girls and their coach Vikram Singh who brought laurels playing for Maharashtra in the national football tournament organized by the Indian Blind Football Federation in May. The Sabha honoured the girls and the coach at Mai Bal Bhavan by presenting them with certificates of appreciation.

Regaining access and confidence

Forty-three-year-old Rajendra Dhuratakar is a resident of Akola district in Maharashtra. When he was in Class IV, he was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, an eye condition that results in gradual sight loss. Though the family went in shock, Rajendra continued to study hard and topped his school. He later graduated with a degree in Agriculture but due to significant vision deterioration, he had to give up on further studies.
