DAVV to develop educational content for visually-impaired

Indore: As a relief for the visually impaired college-goers as one of its first, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) is now in planning to develop educational content for them. The varsity will also be arranging for additional resources in terms of books and even audio books for the students. At present, the visually impaired college goers are primarily dependent on recordings during their classes and their classmates. While there are audio notes available. However, those are mostly arranged by Non Profit Organizations (NGOs) and not by the varsity or higher educational institutions (HEIs).

Quota for disabled not practical, says schools’ forum

State government had not issued any guidelines before making it mandatory.

A section of aided primary school managers have claimed that 4% reservation for people with disabilities will prove to be challenge to those running single schools.

In a recent memorandum to General Education Minister V. Sivankutty, functionaries of Kerala Aided (Primary) School Managers Association (KASMA) had pointed out that the Education department had issued an order making the quota mandatory for aided schools only in November last year.

Eyeway Conversations with Ruchi Patil

In this episode of Eyeway Conversations, George Abraham speaks with Ruchi Patil, mother of a visually impaired boy. Arijit Patil is a Class XII student in Mumbai who experienced vision problems from an early age. A premature baby born in the sixth month of Ruchi's pregnancy, his retina didn't quite develop as expected. After the initial reaction of shock and panic, his parents got into problem solving mode, visiting top eye hospitals. And finally they realised the need to salvage what they had instead of focusing on what wasn't.

The Rotaract west blind in collaboration with Ideal Academy come up with an interesting quiz competition which will begin from the 23rd of January and the last date for registration is 21st January. u can participate in a team of 2 participants and 1 should be visually impaired. The entry amount per team is 100 . 
 
The winning teams will get cash prizes.
1st team with 1500, 2nd team with 1000 and 3rd team with 500
Everyone will also get participation certificates.

Person with Disability (PwD) Certificate: In order to avail application fee concession under the Person with Disability (PwD) category, the candidates should attach a recently obtained valid PwD certificate issued by the competent authority. The same document shall be required to be submitted to the Admitting Institute at the time of admission. The onus of verifying the PwD certificate lies with the Admitting Institute. The JAM Committee will not be responsible for any incorrect declaration of the PwD status of candidates.

But innovations in technology have opened up an array of career opportunities for them. Today good education can land blind individuals in various sectors like IT, Railways, Banking, Finance, Journalism and so on.
 

CRC Kozhikode to move to new premises

Union Minister to open the facility through online mode on Tuesday

The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), Kozhikode, is all set to be shifted to a new building on the premises of the Government Hospital of Dermatology from Tuesday.

CRC Kozhikode is among the 21 such institutions across the country functioning under the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. The Union Territory of Lakshadweep also comes under it.

No person can be forced to get vaccinated against their wishes: Centre to Supreme Court

The Centre said this in its affidavit filed in response to a plea by NGO Evara Foundation seeking door-to-door, priority COVID-19 vaccination for persons with disabilities.

The Centre has told the Supreme Court that COVID-19 inoculation guidelines issued by the Union Health Ministry do not envisage forcible vaccination without obtaining the consent of an individual.
