Blinded by fate, 17-year-old champion athlete from Usgao sets sights on international stage

  PANAJI: Sakshi Kale didn’t look out of place at the GMC  Athletic Stadium in Bambolim. Having travelled 40km from  Usgao alone, walking through a dirt road to catch a bus and   then changing it twice to reach the stadium, the 17-year-old  was ready to test herself against the rest of the athletes  for the 100m sprint at the SAG/GAA Mini State Athletic  Championship.
There was nothing unusual for the naked eye.  Only that Sakshi was visually impaired and 100m sprint  wasn’t her first choice.

Visually impaired Lawyer Suraj Singh has been appointed as the Government Advocate in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The appointment came after the lawyer sat on a protest outside the high court demanding sound implementation of disability laws in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir by the administration.

Employment Rights For Disabled People At Workplace: What RPwD Act 2016 Says

Persons with disabilities are protected by the same laws as everyone else and share the same general employment rights as other job seekers and employees. However, there are also special terms for them under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016 which was passed by the government of India. The Act and the Rules replaced the 1995 legislation and introduced substantial changes to the rights and protections of people with disabilities.

Often, we encourage our callers to pursue higher education, acquire new skills and proper training, actively seek gainful employment and aspire to thrive alongside their able-bodied peers. Eligibility Criteria:

• For visually impaired students only, age 16 & above.

• Should have laptop/desktop with good internet connection.

• Should have basic knowledge of computer and MS Word.

• Should clear the Entrance  Assesment Test.

India's first radio channel for visually-impaired people 'Radio Aksh' launched in Nagpur

NAGPUR: Country's first-ever radio channel for the visually impaired, named 'Radio Aksh' has been launched in Nagpur, with the Blind Relief Association Nagpur and Samdrushti Kshamata Vikas Avam Anusandhan Mandal (Saksham) serving as the pioneers of the concept that will help the visually-impaired gain seamless access to education resources and audiobooks.
