Australia supports Karnataka Women’s Blind Cricket Team

BENGALURU:  The Australian Consulate-General, Chennai, announced a partnership with Samarthanam Trust For The Disabled in Bengaluru on Friday, supporting the Karnataka Women’s Blind Cricket Team.
Andrew Collister, Vice Consul, said, “We are delighted to announce this partnership on the same day as Australia plays India in the opening game of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Sydney, Australia. Australia is proud to support women’s cricket from grassroots to the elite.”

Making mainstream literature accessible for all

NEW DELHI:  Recently, the JCB Literature Foundation at ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival announced an initiative to make the shortlisted entries for the JCB Prize for Literature more accessible to the visually impaired. This particular announcement was made by Mita Kapur, writer and Literary Director of the JCB Prize for Literature, during a special session, titled Literature for All: The JCB Prize Shortlist in Braille.

Child blindness campaign urges people to donate eyes

Shalimar Paints has started an initiative to bring colours to the lives of the blind kids. The non-availability of ramps for children with special needs at Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 45-A, became a cause of concern for the Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR), a team of which visited the school today.

There are more than 10 children with special needs (CWSN) enrolled in the school. Classes for some of them are being run on the first and second floor. A school official claimed that multiple requests had been made to the UT Education Department regarding the need for a ramp in the school, but to no avail.

Audio traffic signals to guide the blind fall silent in Chennai

CHENNAI: Three years ago, in a-first-of-its-kind initiative,  the state government had installed audio signals at 150  locations in the city. The device, attached to traffic signal posts, guided the visually impaired by informing them on the signal and helped them walk without the fear of being hit by a vehicle.
