G-Suite training begins for teachers

Thiruvananthapuram: State general education department has  started G-Suite online platform training for visually- challenged teachers in government and aided schools in the  state. As many as 456 teachers across the state are about  to benefit from the training programme organised by KITE.
KITE has already deployed free software-based screen reader applications like Orca in the school computers so that teachers with visual impairment would be able to overcome their limitations with the help of technology.

US-based payment processing company Mastercard has launched an accessible card standard designed to help partially sighted and blind people, called the Touch Card.

As most cards have moved to flat designs without embossed numbers or names, Mastercard came up with a means for the visually impaired people to easily identify the type of card they are using – credit, debit, or prepaid.

Railways installs Braille rendition of Pune station layout

To help visually challenged passengers at the Pune railway station, the Pune railways has installed a Braille layout of the station premises.
PUNE To help visually challenged passengers at the Pune railway station, the Pune railway has installed a Braille layout of the station premises and released a a Braille handbook with information about the station. Both these are in the LIPI format which is a text-based rendering.

Bridgestone India installed the Braille map as well, as provided sign language videos and ramps for easy access to wheelchair-bound passengers.

Eyeway Conversations with Visually Impaired Filmmaker Anand Kulkarni

In this episode of Eyeway Conversations, George Abraham speaks with Anand Kulkarni, the first and only visually impaired filmmaker in Asia. At the age of seven, Anand was diagnosed with Macular Dystrophy which led to a gradual sight loss. But he managed to study with assistive technology and a great deal of support from his family. When Anand applied for a Bachelors in Mass Media, he was rejected by most top colleges in Mumbai.
