Nearly one and a half year after the novel coronavirus was first detected, countries in various parts of the world are still implementing rolling lockdowns and curfews while encouraging mask-wearing and social distancing. While these are designed to prevent the spread of the virus, people with disabilities may have difficulty observing these rules in public places.
They may not be able to see the impact of partial curfew being implemented in view of COVID-19, but could definitely feel it.
Philanthropists’ “generous donations” to the visually impaired artists has come down. They sing songs at roadside shows in the city to eke out a living. Nowadays they find it difficult to make both ends meet, as people, of late, hardly stop at the roadside events.

Disabled rights activist Abha Khetarpal said . she was infected with Covid-19 when she went to get vaccinated. “The centre was very crowded. Because of it, my mother also got Covid and she couldn’t take her second dose,” said Khetrapal.

Pranav lost his eyesight due to Retinopathy of Prematurity, a condition that inflicts infants born prematurely. He started off his education in the Gulf using braille, and gradually moved on to digital mediums. With an academic background in Commerce and Business Administration, he shifted gears to IT when he discovered he could solve problems by writing programs. Pranav taught himself to write code when he was in Class 9.

Moses was born to a farmer family in a village in Andhra Pradesh and his visual impairment was detected when he was three months old. But his hard work, took him to a college in Hyderabad, where Moses relied on his friends to help him study.
