In this episode of Eyeway Conversations, George Abraham speaks with Moses Chowdari who is a person with low vision, working with Enable India in Bangalore. Moses was born to a farmer family in a village in Andhra Pradesh and his vision impairment was detected when he was three months old. Growing up, his family wasn't sure what life had in store for him, assuming that blind people generally end up singers or musicians.
Mohammed Samir is a thirty-year-old resident of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He lost his eye sight in Class 8, after which he had to drop out of school. Coming from a small town and a family which was ignorant about opportunities for visually impaired children, Samir was forced to stay at home. Over the years he became increasingly dependent on people around him for basic activities of daily living. While his siblings moved around freely, getting proper education and employment, Samir struggled to even walk independently.
Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty will inaugurate a Braille-audio library project at Government School for the Visually Impaired at Vazhuthacaud here on January 4, World Braille Day.
The day marks the 213th birth anniversary of Louis Braille, the man behind the Braille system, a language system of reading and writing that is used by the visually impaired.
The Braille-audio library project at the school has been implemented under the supervision of the District Library Council with financial assistance from the Kerala State Library Council.

“We would be carrying soaps, incense sticks, books to sell on buses and they would restrict it. How are we to earn a living then,” they asked.
