31-year-old Priyabrata Sahu was born sighted in Sundargarh district of Odisha. He started experiencing sight loss while studying in Class 8. He managed to overcome low vision issues with the help of spectacles. After completing his B-tech degree, Priyabrata was employed as a Support Engineer in an IT company.
But things took an adverse turn in 2018 when his vision started deteriorating rapidly. Unable to work, he lost his job and was forced to sit idle at home. Soon after, the pandemic and the lockdown followed, turning his hopelessness into depression.

Punjab Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Chaudhry Sajid Mehmood has said that funds amounting to Rs2 million for the establishment of a computer lab at a school in Daultala for differently-abled children have been released.
The lawmaker made this statement while addressing the annual performance and new enrolment ceremony held at the said school.
Three children from Malappuram have been selected for the Ujjwala Ballyam 2020 awards instituted by the Woman and Child Development Department. In the differently abled category, Alveena, a nine-year-old visually challenged student from Manjeri, won the award. A Class IV student of Kerala School for the Blind, Vallikkapatta, Alveena is excellent at playing the keyboard. She speaks seven languages — English, Spanish, Japanese, French, Chinese, Arabic and Hindi. Her talent in mimicry and general knowledge also helped her achieve the award.

As visually impaired woman lawyer from Tamil Nadu has moved the Supreme Court, demanding sign language interpreters during press briefings by the Prime Minister, CMs and ministers.
Filed by M Karoagam, a disability rights activist, the PIL sought directions to the Centre and states to provide sign language interpreters during important press briefings in accordance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi's (IIT Delhi) Neilom Award for the year was conferred on Monday on Richa Gupta and Girish Yadav for their work in developing assistive technologies for the disabled. The honour, which is an annual affair rewards graduates from IIT Delhi with a cash prize of Rupees 1 lakh.
Access to appropriate information at the right time can be empowering. Especially for persons with vision impairment who often lose out on opportunities of independent living due to a lack of awareness.
Annamma is a visually impaired person from Gulbarga in Karnataka. Living in a hostel in Bangalore, she is currently pursuing final year of her graduation. To meet her education expenses, she applied for a state sponsored scholarship.

The guidelines seek to make the terminals and stops more accessible by introducing a uniform set of norms for all states to follow while constructing such facilities.
